General Information


Workspace™ in an integrated classroom training solution used in a collaborative classroom environment. Workspace™ enhances educator productivity by allowing them to focus more time on improving student learning and increasing their performance. Workspace functionality includes:

System Requirements


Mac:

Linux:

The bluez packages can be installed using your specific Distribution's Package Manager.  For more information on Linux Bluetooth support, please see http://www.bluez.org/

After confirming that the required bluez packages are installed, please make sure that the rfcomm service is running.  See your distribution-specific documentation to determine how you can check this.

"sudo" must be installed to a location that is included in the system's default search path; otherwise it will not be found.  The default search path on most systems includes '/usr/bin', but you should refer to your system's documentation for more details.

This package adds support for running 32 bit applications within a 64 bit Operating System. Please see your specific distributions documentation for information on installing the "ia32-libs" package.

Installation Information


Installing the Workspace software from the Workspace CD

  1. Log into the system with an account that has administrative privileges.   Linux users should log in as "root" or use "sudo" when launching the installation.
  2. Insert the Workspace CD. Double-click on the CD icon that appears on your desktop. Double click on the "Install Workspace" icon to launch the installation.
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation of the Workspace software.

This section lists the corrections and enhancements made to the recent versions of the Workspace software.

Release 5.70.0713 February 2011

  • Enhancements

    • Mobi View™ support

    • “Presenter” mode support

    • Allow Windows Sizing is now enabled by default

    • Provide handwriting recognition support for the following languages: Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Polish, Czech, Kazakh, Turkish, Tamil and Hindi

  • Corrections

    • Text entities will no longer disappear from the original page when that page is duplicated and text entities on the duplicate page are set to background

    • Moving a partial screen capture to the background of a GWB file saved on Mac no longer makes those backgrounds appear black when opened in Windows.

    • WS Windows GWB files containing CPS™ questions can be opened and saved.

    • Calendar page year now displays correctly when four months is selected followed by the selection of one week.

    • Pasted objects grouped with other entities now copy and paste appropriately

    • "Register online" link no longer redirects the user to a Page Not Found.

    • Localization: Response Integration - Responses sent no longer display as invalid in the impromptu graph when the correct response is sent from the student response device in languages other than English

    • Workspace media player now plays when a user selects an .MOV file and clicks on "open” button of open file dialog box from Record and Playback mode

    • The record and playback onscreen keyboard launches when "stop recording" is selected.

    • Spotlight / Curtain / On Screen Keyboard tools close when Workspace is exited.

    • eInstruction Menu option is now present in the Application Menu after restart on an Ubuntu 10.04 platform

    • Workspace student response integration with Response software - Multiple Choice (Letters) now list all 10 options

    • Opening a recently saved file now opens the file for the first time after installation on a clean machine.

    • Java heap space error no longer appears when a user inserts large images when building out the Workspace Gallery

    • Soft-keys function in multi-user mode for devices which are not part of Multi-user scenario.

    • Entities are now saved when the file extension has been changed and those images are inserted into the page

    • Localization – folders and filenames in the Workspace™ Sims folder are localized correctly and no longer display invalid characters when Telugu language is chosen in Ubuntu 8.04

    • Localization is available for the following languages: Japanese, Korean (South Korea), Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and boxes in Ubuntu 8.04.

    • Save prompt dialog no longer displays behind the Curtain tool.

    • GWB files are no longer corrupted when a user deletes the stamps folder from installation path after adding a stamp onto the page.

    • Open GWB files without issue. Previously displayed as corrupted on Mac Workspace™ 4.2, 4.3, 4.40.0054, and 5.0 versions for valid pages.

    • Four different years no longer displayed in Calendar Page preview when 'Four months' option is selected.

    • Dragging Workspace™ Gallery images to the desktop on Mac no longer drops the image as a text file.

    • Annotations are no longer missing in a GWB file with an inserted audio note when the language is other than English.

    • Norwegian Linux on-screen Keyboard now displays localized characters

    • Support of Localization-Bengali and Telugu Languages Java Heap space Exception no longer displays in the Workspace log file when the user attempts to create additional pages with large image sizes per page

    • The Dualboard pen now works without a required restart of Device Manager after creating a Multi-user page, saving it from File menu, and exiting.

    • The Workspace™ Help file content in languages other than English is now similar to English language Help file content.

    • Icons are visible in the Help file content management sections under the Tool category.

    • The Timer tool is localized.

  • Corrections

    • If a firmware update fails all hot plug events will be disengaged until Device Manager is restarted

    • User is not able to enter answers or votes until question starts (resolved in Teacher Managed Mode as well)

    • Able to consistently have one channel activated in Response using PRS RF student response devices

    • Device Manager conflict resolution with Sprint Smart View and 3G Air Card while port # 64211 is in use

    • Ability to “Pan” page as opposed to “Change” page in Workspace™ using Softkey

    • As a GWB file is linked to Softkey, it successfully opens from within Workspace™

    • When discovering a new device the unlock button is disabled when the student response device is not locked

    • When a locked Mobi™ is assigned "Set Presenter" mode, the “Lock” icon in the Device Manager toolbar and menu item of Mobi™ (to the right) is now shown as locked

    • When the “Close” or “Exit CPS™” button is clicked the Exception error does not appear

    • Gen3 SRS devices display True/False questions correctly

    • Device Manager will now show Correct/Incorrect in the CPS Pulse™ device when a correct or incorrect answer for a numeric question type is "0"

    • Text messages with special characters are received correctly

    • When engaging an unsupported question type in CPS™ for Mac the correct messaging is displayed

    • Device Manager for MAC software versions detects if more than one CPS Pulse™ RF receiver exists and is functioning

    • While running Device Manager at activity monitor level, only one instance of Device Manager appears

    • When restarting Device Manager while the calibration window is open, Device Manager does not lock up

    • After a Gen 3 CPS Pulse™ receiver firmware upgrade, all device properties are accessible and working without restarting Device Manager (*If using firmware version .54 and lower, the user will experience disruption and be required to manually join.)
